Three Catholics Recommended
A proposal to appoint four more probation officers for the City of Liverpool was referred back for further consideration at the quarterly meeting of Liverpool City Justices at Liverpool Town Hall, last Friday.
The Probation Committee recommended the appointment of an additional Protestant male probation officer, two Catholic male officers, and one Catholic female officer. Mr. W. J. Bellis, moving the report of the committee, said they were unanimous in their recommendation and it.° regard to the denominations they represented.
Violent Fluctuations
Mr. T. P. Davis, a Catholic magistrate, said the numbers of persons on probation fluctuated very violently at times between the two denominations.
Mrs. Bomber said she could not understand why they should have a greater proportion of Catholic officers.
Mr. Davis. in answer to Mr. Cory Dixon, said there were 419 Catholics on probation and 555 Protestants. Mr. Dixon then moved an amendment that the resolution be referred back for further consideration, which was carried by a large majority.
LIVERPOOL C.Y.M.S. RALLY POSTPONED
The public rally and demonstration organised by the Liverpool Archdiocesan Council of the C.Y.M.S. to take place on January 17, but postponed owing to the indisposition of Mgr. Downey, has been arranged for Sunday, February 14. in the Town Hall, St. Helens.
