DR WILSON, in your letters column (November 7) feels that, concerning the nuclear pollution of our planet, I have been influenced by anti-nuclear people.
He is right. Many religious, including Sr Rosalie Bertell, Thomas Merton, Luther King, theologians, bishops and many others have spoken strongly against the nuclear programme. These I can trust. Governments and experts are more secretive and have other motives.
Sr Rosalie Bertell, whose hand book on radioactivity was used for the treatment of the Chernobyl victims, claims: 'nuclear particles can be taken into fish or the human body through breathing, bathing, swimming, drinking or open wounds. They can be incorporated into hones, muscles or other organs where they can continue to irradiate cells for a lifetime.
I hope Dr Bertell is wrong, but she is a scientist with many years of research, and prayer, and I feel it is not for us to put future generations at risk by failing to look closely at the protection of the earth.
