Putting the past behind

THIS haunting picture is on the appeal card of the Catholic Social Service for Prisoners who are appealing for funds to help ex-prisoners to put their past behind them and make a new life for themselves and their families.

Michael Gregory, the chairman of CSSP Says they have won one battle, for the survival of their London office, which is now at 189A Old Brompton Road, London SW5 (telephone 01-370-6612) but they are faced with the prospect of finding new premises in the North, in Preston.

I see from their newsletter Fresh Start, that the ever-busy Sr Dolores, ably supported by Clare Balfour, is as busy as ever helping the families of prisoners, particularly the children.

Your voluntary help is needed, as well as cash donations, and, of course, your prayers.

I do not know of any small band of men and women who are so conscientious, so cheerful and so prayerful in their work as the CSSP, whose good work continues in prisons as far apart as Wandsworth and the Isle of Wight. Further information from Neil Ockenden, Direct CSSP, 189A Old Brompton Road, London SW5 telephone; 01-370-6612, or 59 Pole Street, Preston, Lancs.
