SPARE A THOUGHT

BEFORE you allocate every spare moment of your holiday, remember the attractions of the annual houseparty at Farnborough Hill Convent. Talks are provided on "Ronnie Knox— Priest and Friend", "Movement for a Better World", or "Costume and Dress from the Conquest to the Coronation", all by suitably eminent speakers. The Prior of Buckfast Abbey is the host, and lest the discussions and such events as sung or dialogue daily Mass threaten with spiritual indigestion, there is also dancing, tennis, swimming, walks, art all-day excursion, together with the unspecified pleasure of "just being". People of any faith or none are welcome. The dates are August 11 to 19, details from G. Lawrence. Broadview School, Beach Road, Hayling Island, Hants. Cost, £10, all-inclusive.

THE Family Service Units exist to help families in difficulties. They give the most practical help of all. One of the mothers helped during a difficult time tried to explain what it had meant to her. She said, "Many a morning after the confinement I always lay in bed waiting for one of your workers to come in . . but I always knew Mary would he in shortly ... I was glad when Mary dropped up to the shops and got the meat for me . . . or did my shopping . . . or bathed the baby, and when I couldn't walk she actually got down and polished the floor with me."

The work that these trained and loving people do excites the admiration both of those they help, and the general public. The Family Service Units know of many children who would benefit by a brief holiday. If you can offer hospitality in your home, write to 207 Marylehone Road, London, N.W.I. The children are selected, and free from illness.
