Vandalism

QTR,-I have recently heard of ai7 plans to build a luxury hotel on the Mount of Olives in the Holy Land. I should have thought that such a piece of vandalism would have shocked all Christians.

Many buildings and areas in the Holy Land are in a shameful state of decay. Surely a fund should be launched and negotiations started with the authorities concerned to preserve and restore these monuments which mean so much to us. What are the views of the Hierarchy on this matter? Could this not he one of the subjects for discussion at the coming Congress in Rome? Preservation and restoration of the Cradle of Christianity is surely common ground for Christian Unity?

With regard to the Mount of Olives, unless we act at once it will certainly be too late. We shall then be condemned by future generations.
