Meter Matters

I am delighted to read (Whitefriars Chronicle. April 20) that Ambrosden Avenue and the surrounding streets are to be "metered". I am a London cabdriver and can honestly say that in the past 12 years I have been able to put my cab on the rank outside the Cathedral only once or twice. If I ever stopped outside the Cathedral I had to "double bank" with private cars usurping the cab rank. Often I have to pull off because of traffic and once the police ordered me away from the rank to make room for a motorcoach.

As regards Ambrosden Avenue, you can be pretty certain that a meter scheme will prevent cars from parking outside His Eminence's house. A plan of the meter sites will be open for inspection at Westminster City Hall well before the meters are erected.
