From Miss Katherine Gray SIR – It seems sad that so many in Catholic circles, like Ryan Service (Features, February 25), are now following the secular world and referring to “first names” instead of “Christian names”. Unfortunately, a generation has now grown up with the latter expression virtually prohibited.
Encouragingly, though, on the BBC website the same day royal correspondent Peter Hunt referred to Catherine Middleton’s “full Christian name”. We should not be afraid to use the term, using our judgment as to when it might be inappropriate. Yours faithfully, KATHERINE GRAY By email
