MGR HENRY Thompson has been appointed Provost of the Leeds Cathedral Chapter, and two new Vicars General, Canon John Murphy and Mgr Peter McGuire have been named. The appointments result from Mgr Kevin O'Brien's promotion to Auxiliary Bishop of Middlesbrough. Mgr Bryan Sharp and Fr Harold Parker have become Canons of the Chapter.

BISHOP James O'Brien, Pre.sident of the Justice and Peace Commission, celebrated Mass on December 2 to mark the first anniversary of the murder in El Salvador of three American Catholic nuns and a lay worker last year. The event. at St Aloysius church, Phoenix Road, London, was sponsored by -CAFOD, the Justice and Peace Commission, Pax Christi and CIIR.
