Irish gaol reform call

PROPOSALS for "a more humane approach" regarding prison dress and prison work in Northern Ireland has been put to the British Government by Cardinal 0 Fiaich of Armagh and Bishop Edward Daly of Deny. The proposals are an attempt to solve the present impasse over the "dirty blanket" protest in H Block in Long Kesk prison.

In a statement last week the two churchmen said that some moves had been made in the direction of a more humane approach, hut thin they would continue to press for more substantial changes. Details of the proposals were not released.
