CATHOLIC ACTION IN BOLTON Young Apostles of the Press

Yet another Catholic Action organisation is able to report undiminished energy and continued progress in spite of war difficulties. It is the Bolton Catholic Workers' Group, which as one of its activities devotes itself to the Apostolate of Catholic literature, its young members having for several years ceaselessly sold or given away papers, periodicals, pamphlets; etc., at churches and at private houses.
As announced at its recent general meeting, Group members during the months of June, July and August, sold 11,946 Catholic papers and periodicals, averaging 917 weekly, of which 354 have been distributed in 11 districts by members of the Group and 563
have been sold at live church doors. In addition to these. Ft50 copies of the Catholic Worker have been sold.
Unfortunately.. owing to the eidling-up of members the Group is finding it difficult to cope will, present sales, especially in the districts. It hopes. however, that as a result of appeals for members it may obtain the services of other young persons prepared to help.
The sales through " The Workers' " Bookshop (the premises of the Group) for the same period total £52 Sc., and the number of C.T.S. pamphlets sold through C.T.S. racks, the shop arid supplied wholesale to Boxtenders is 4,804, about 400 per week. A library has been opened in the shop in which there are now approximately 300 books, the number of subscribers being 107. It is hoped in time to extend this still further.
Two C.S.G. Study Circles exist, senior and junior. The members of the Senior Circle took the examination held recently by the Catholic Social College. all members being successful, two obtaining first-class, three second-class and one third-class.
