VATICAN CITY.
Cardinal Mindszenty is now under treatment in the hospital of a Budapest prison, the unofficial Vatican Press Service reported last week.
Quoting " well-informed sources," the Press service, directed by Mgr. Pucci, said the cardinal was in 'poor health and had been admitted to the prison hospital in Budapest to uneiergo special treatment.
"In the last few days, Cardinal
Mindszenty was visited by Mgr. Nicola Dudes, Bishop of Hajdudorog, and by the Vicar-General of Budapest. '' The eighty-year-old mother of the cardinal was allowed to see her son. owing to the good offices of a nun of the social services," the Press service said.
'The nun went to see the chief of police, Peter Gabor, and persuaded him to sign a permit for the cardinal's mother .
" The nun persuaded Gabor, when
she explained it would be good publicity for the Hungarian Government abroad if the permit wa, issued.
"Gabor gave the nun a car. with a police escort, and the cardinal's mother was brought immediately te the jail to visit her son.
"The old lady had not even thy time to buy some fruit for Cardinal Mindszenty. When she complained about this to the policeman, an officer sent a man to buy the fruit she wanted," the Press service said.
