38 VCs at Cathedral
THIRTY-EIGHT Catholic VCs sailors, soldiers and airmen were expected to attend the solemn Mass in Westminster Cathedral yesterday (Thursday) for the centenary of the institution of the Victoria Cross.
Luton Vicar received
MR RICHARD Johnson, who until recently was Vicar of St Saviour's, Luton, was received into the Church on Sunday by Fr A. A. Stephenson, S.J., at the Farm Street Jesuit Church, London.
He said: "For many years I have felt growing alarm at the tendency in the Church of England to compromise what to many of us are fundamental principles for the sake of closer relations with Protestant bodies.
"This has culminated in the recent scheme for church unity in South India. where the equal validity of various types of ministry is recognised. In this scheme we are all to some extent involved."
Bishop gives his cross to the poor
THE Archbishop of Saragossa, Mgr Morcillo, has given his best pectoral cross to the poor. It is his method of heading the list of donors to pay for a big development plan in the suburbs.
