ARCHBISHOP Lefebvre's Society of St Pius X is to be investigated by a cardinal delegated by the Pope, according to an Italian report in the Rome newspaper. If Tempo, The archbishop was suspended and his society suppressed after he spoke out against the behaviour of a previous commission.of enquiry and continued to ordain priests for the society.
The 75-year-old archbishop, who has become the centre of traditionalists all over the world, challenges the validity of his suspension. Archbishop Lefebvre said last week that Pope John Paul had made known his plan to appoint a cardinal investigator before he was shot on May 13. But he was not expected to make an appointment before his health improves.
Archbishop Lefebvre ordained eight priests on Monday at Econe. Switzerland. He took a dim view of M. Mitterand's socialist victory in France: "By socialism which is becoming general in all countries, by i communism which is spreading in the world, the Devil hopes to finish off the Catholic religion."
