Thousands Of Christmas Parcels Held Up

Fog played havoc with the postal service in Leeds, and 20,000 parcels which were intended for Christmas delivery only reached their destination on the Friday.

They represented many a minor tragedy, for there were numerous anxious telephone and personal inquiries on Christmas eve and Christmas day on the whereabouts of turkeys and other birds which had been expected.

Despite the partial breakdown the total number of parcels delivered in Leeds during the Christmas season was 150,000.
