EIGHT CHURCHES FREED OF DEBT Anonymous Donor's Generous Act

Keywords: Credit, Debt

The Yorkshire adage: "Tak all, give nowt," has again been falsified by the munificent act of an anonymous donor at Driffield who has agreed to pay off the debts on the eight places of worship in the town.

Each was asked to submit a statement of its indebtedness to the end of the year to a local solicitor, Mr. Thomas Holtby, with whom the necessary funds for the payment of the debts has been entrusted.

A stipulation made by the benefactor is that the churches and chapels shall give an undertaking to remain free of debt for the next two years. Guarantors have come forward to implement the undertaking if required.
