ALL THE members of the South African bishops' conference were invited to take part in a Mass on Sunday for the early release of black priest, Fr Smangaliso Mkhatshwa, held since October 30 last year.
Fr Mkhatshwa was charged the week before with offences relating to terrorism and subversive literature under sections two and thirteen of the National Security Act of Ciskei.
Archbishop Denis Hurley, President of the Southern African Catholic Bishops' Conference was the chief concelebrant in Sunday's Mass at the Cathedral of Christ the King, Johannesburg.
Archbishop Hurley has now revealed that he was threatened with charges by police after revealing last year the responsibility for the deaths of two men in detention and the shooting of a family in Namibia.
