New garrison church opened in Colchester

1/1G R. A. E. S. 13LOUNT, V.G.,
sang Mass on Sunday for the last time as Principal Army Chaplain at the opening of Colchester's new garrison Church of Christ the King.
Archbishop Mathew, Ordinary of H.M. Forces, preached at the opening.
Major-General R. W. Jelf, Chief of Staff. represented the Army Commander of Eastern Command, Sir Francis Festing. Both these officers are well-known Catholics.
The Archbishop later met senior officers and men of all ranks inforamlly and also Catholic Women's League members who had worked on the church's interior decoration.
