Archbishop honours parishioners

ARCHBISHOP Vincent Nichols presented the Ubi Caritas Award to eight parishioners from seven parishes in the Archdiocese of Birmingham during a special Votive Mass of the Holy Spirit in St Chad's Cathedral, Birmingham, on July 19, writes Peter Jennings. The archbishop was the principal concelebrant at the Mass, together with the parish priests who had made the nominations.
In his homily Archbishop Nichols emphasised that the Ubi Caritas Award, which he instituted, is given to people for their generous service to the diocese. He said: "We are all busy people and we have to earn a living. The eight parishioners receiving an award this evening find the time and the energy to offer themselves freely in the service of the Church in their parishes."
