We are now steering a vague and uncharted course among the seas of individual abstractions, about as reliable to the plain man as trips to outer space, or subscribing to artistic standards as out of date as Pugin, only their dates lie in the imagined future.
The case is not always as had as this. Men still study the history of architecture, and in steering away from the Scylla of fantasy we are liable to • be swallowed up by the Charybdis of uninspired compositions taken out of text books.
Ought there not to be a spiritual principle, a supernatural light ready to infuse human science and skill and guide it towards a right achievement just as the Spirit leads
