Market Gossip

The antivipation expressed here a few weeks back that last year's small renewer of dividends with

per cent. on the Ordinary 5s. shares of .1 Samuel White would be followed by something snore substantial, has been borne out by the recent declaration of an interim dividend for the current year of 5 per cent. This is taken to indicate a total distribution of at least 121 per cent, probably rather mare. The price of these shares has been up to ran, and is now around 6s. 9d., which, compared with ninny others in the same category, appears relatively cheap.

• C * The maintenance by Canning Town Glass of a dividend of 75 per cent. on the 5s. Ordinary shares, in respect of 1939, also fulfills a forecast made recently in these notes. The net profit contracted by only £4,299 to £44,226, and once again substantial allocations were made to reserves, which include a dividend equalisation fund of £10,000. The atlases are now about 4s. 9d ▪ a * • The above notes are not necessarily intended to be taken as recommendations to buy, but merely as current talk of the markets.
