Vatican restoring relations with Yugoslavia

THE Vatican and Yugoslavia are to restore full diplomatic relations. The Apostolic Delegation in Belgrade will be raised to Ambassadorial Yugoslavia is the only East European nation which maintains any kind of diplomatic ties with the .Vatican. Ties at the Apostolic Delegate level were re-established in 1966 after a 14-year break caused when Pope Pius Xlf name Archbishop Alois Stcpinac then in jail for alleged war crimes a Cardinal. The move would, among other things. allow President Tito officially to call on the Pope if he comes to Rome sometime later this year. Reports of such a visit have been published frequently with no denials from Italian or Yugoslav authorities.

Headteacher replaces nun

He is Mr. Kevin Doyle, 33, deputy head teacher at Shotton Catholic Primary School, who takes up his new appointment in September. The position at Holywell has previously been filled by a nun of the Sisters of Charity of St. Paul.

Headmaster for 25 years retires
ALD. CHARLES SHEILL, secretary of the Catholic Teachers' Federation, retired last week after 25 years as headmaster of St. Agnes' Catholic school, Cricklewood. At a presentation party arranged by the school's parents' association, Canon James de Felice announced that Mr. Sheill had been promoted from Knight to Knight Commander of the Order of St. Gregory. He is also a Knight of the Sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem. Fr. Stanley Harrison, parish priest of St. Agnes, Cricklewood, read out a letter from Cardinal Heenan which said of Mr. Sheill: "The good of the children has always been the sole aim in his profession . . . With truly Catholic vision he has influenced the whole Church in this country in the educational field.

OBITUARY
Fr. William Henry Munster, Superior of the London Oratory from 1934 to 1960. aged 83. He was educated at Beaumont. StonyhurSt. and New College. Oxford. He joined the London Oratory in 1909. and was ordained priest in 1912. Apart from a short period of study in Rome, he spent his entire priestly life at the Oratory.
Sir Ivan Thompson, Commodore of the Cunard Steamship Company from 1954 to 1957. aged 75. He commanded many Cunard liners. and was at sea throughout the 1914-1918 and 1939-1945 wars. He joined the Cunard Line in 1916 after service in the Harrison Line. He was educated at St. Francis Xavier's. 1.iverpool. and the Xavicrian College. Bruges.
