Anglicans to discuss Europe

Religious conditions in Eastern Europe will be among the matters discussed by the Church o' England General Synod when it meets at Church House, Westminster, next Tuesday. The Synod will be asked to study the detailed report on Christianity in Eastern Europe by the Rev Trevor Beeson, "Discretion and Valour", published by the British Council of Churches. They will also urge the Government to continue to assert that human rights standards be fully implemented at the Conference for Security and Co-operation in Europe. The Rev Michael Bourdeaux, Anglican director of the Centre for the Study of Religion and Communism, said the Centre's College, near London, met a vital need in reporting on religion under Communism.

Addressing the Centre's annual meeting this month, he said interest rates on the money borrowed to purchase Keston College had soared and if more money was not raised, the Centre's magazine might have to cease publication after March.
