dies in US aged 86
Mrs Maisie Sheed, with her husband Frank co-founder of Sheed and Ward, the Catholic publishars, died in hospital in, New Jersey, USA. on Tuesday, aged 86.
. Mrs Ward, whose dream it was that every parish should have its own housing centre, helped found the Catholic Housing Aid Society. She used her home in Wigan as a house of hospitality during the Depression in the 1930s and after the last war began helping families with housing difficulties.
Mrs Mollie Walsh said: "One day, out of the blue, she rang me and simply said 'Ivlaic, we must do something about housing'. In 1957 she helped form a committee to aid people raising deposits for mortgages, some of the meetings being held, at Sheed and Ward's premises in Maiden Lane, London."
Later they were joined by Fr (now Bishop) Eamonn Casey when he worked in Slough as continued on PLO.
