Handel's " Messiah" THE new Columbia recording of Handel's Messiah was made in the Huddersfield Town Hall during July. New recording techniques were employed, and many hours were spent in experiments and rehearsals before the actual waxes were cut.
It was considered that 150 voices would constitute an efficient yet flexible chorus, but it was no easy task to select that number from a Society where all were so good. As a result, the choreses am majestic and the solos in the highest tradition of English Oratorio. The Orchestra is one of the finest in the country.
With these forces at his command, Dr. Malcolm Sargent has secured an ideal Messiah performance. The price of the complete set is 76s. (not including Purchase Tax). C. E. M.
