QUEBEC'S LAST TRIBUTE TO DEAD CARDINAL

Cardinal Spellman, Archbishop of New York, and Cardinal McGuigan, Archbishop of Toronto, headed a vast concourse of eminent clerics from all over America at the funeral ceremonies of Cardinal Villeneuve in Quebec on Friday last. The body arrived in Montreal on Monday, January 20, after a requiem in the cathedral there. It was taken to the Bishop's Palace, Quebec, on Tuesday, where it lay in state.

Despite weather well below freezing point, more than 50,000 people tiled past the body before, on Wednesday evening, it was taken to Notre Dame Basilica. When the body was placed in the crypt of the Basilica the week of mourning decreed in the Quebec province came to an end.

THE VICAR CAPITULAR Mgr. Georges Leon Pelletier, 42year-old Titular Bishop of Ephestus, the second Auxiliary Bishop of Quebec, has been named Vicar Capin, lar by the Canonical Chapter.
