Mgr. Edward A. D'Alton, P.P., V.G., LL.D.. M.R.I.A., Ballinrobe, Dean of the Tuam Archdiocese and a Papal Domestic Prelate, who died on Saturday, aged 81, was ordained at Maynooth in 1887. He served as curate in six parishes before being appointed parish priest of Ballinrobe 30 years ago, becoming at the same time Vicar Forane of the Archdiocese. Since 1930 he had been Dean and Vicar-General.

Mgr. Dalton wrote an eight-volume history of Ireland and a two-volume history of the Archdiocese of' Tuam. He was the senior member of the governing body of University College, Galway.
