Legacy For "Deserving" Students

Professor John Edward Aloysius Steggall, of Dundee, who left £44,245, bequeathed £1,000 to the City of London School to establish a fund to help deserving students to proceed to Cambridge University.

He stated: "The interest is not to be used to help mediocrity. In my experience, students of mediocre attainments have not derived any substantial benefit from a subsidised attendance at either of our great universities."
