ANGLICANS LOSE MILLION SCHOLARS But .Catholics Making Steady Progress

The Vicar of Dewsbury. Canon W. J. Brown, speaking at the Bradford Anglican Diocesan Conference quoted figures showing the remarkable decline in the number of Church of England schools and scholars in England.

Within the last 34 years, he said, the number of children attending Church of England schools had declined by a million. There are 9,138 Church of England schools, 1,241 Catholic, and 331 " other " non-provided schools in the country. Since 1902 the Church of England has lost nearly 2,600 schools, and " other " schools have declined by 1,200.

The only religious body whose schools have increased in that period is the C.atholic, the increase being nearly two hunched.
