SOME 800 children from the " schools of Devon and Cornwall assembled at the Cathedral of St. Mary and St. Boniface, Plymouth, on Thursday last week, to celebrate the double centenary of Our Lady o f. Lourdes and the opening of the Cathedral.
The Cathedral was officially opened on March 25, 1858, the day on which Our Lady indentified herself to St. Bernadette as the "Immaculate Conception."
Some of the children had travelled over 100 miles—from as far away as Penzance, Bideford and Seaton.
Pontifical High Mass was celebrated by Bishop Restieaux while the children formed the choir. In the afternoon there was a procession in honour of Our Lady, an address by the Bishop and Pontifical Benediction.
