Religious Orders For the Married

SiR,-"Jotter" deplores the fact that there is nothing comparable to Religious Orders for the married with vows of chastity according to their state.

"Jotter" has never heard apparently of Carmelite Tertiaries. Tertiaries as the name implies, are those belonging to the Third Order of Carmel, and while whether single or married. they continue to live their lives in the world and at the same time enjoy a share in all the observances and sacrifices of both First and Seceind Orders, and Tertiaries themselves seek a higher degree of perfection by Meditation. Mass, and the recitation of the Little Habit of Our Lady. They wear a large scapular representing the Habit. and after a year's noviceship make profession. This profession with the Discaked Carmelites includes a vow of chastity (according to state of life) and obedience.

Full information concerning Tertiaries may he obtained from The Prior, Carmelite Priory, 41 Kensington Church Street. London, W.8, or the Central Office, The Friars, Aylesford. Nr. Maidstone, Kent,
