Archbishop on Lourdes pilgrimage
ARCHBISHOP VINCENT Nichols of Westminster marked the start of the Archdiocese of Westminster’s annual Lourdes Pilgrimage by calling for prayers for the success of the Pope’s visit to Britain.
More than 900 pilgrims took part in the diocese’s 21st annual pilgrimage, which started on Monday and ends tomorrow.
In his homily for the opening Mass, celebrated in the Rosary Basilica, Archbishop Nichols drew attention to three key aspects of the pilgrimage – companionship, service to others and prayer.
He said: “This is a family, a family that serves one another, a family that prays and each of us have come with the intentions we have been asked for in our prayers and to that list I would like to add one more: that during these days, we pray earnestly for the success of the visit of Pope Benedict to the United Kingdom in September.”
