SIR,-it is good to know that at least one reader (letter of February 9) also enjoys the fun of seeing himself through angelic eyes. May I advance a logical reason for believing there is amusement in Heaven? Angels, Our Lady and her Son, and the Divine Persons have Perfect natures; and the saints' have been perfected. But lack of a sense of humour is a great imperfection. Ergo a sense of humour belongs to heavenly beings. And if you analyse the human sense of humour not wit) you will see that its elements are things angels certainly possess.
Mr. Crealock mentions possible sarcasm by psychologists murmurs of "aberrant , . ." So may I suggest a much neglected line of psycho-theological enquiry? What is the practical reason underlying the Church's inclusion in her Prayer, of requests for angelic help, the use of relics and statues of the saints, devotion to Our Lady by her apparitional names and pictures, and to Our Lord's historical life with its liturgical feasts? Might it he that all this helps 10 fix the attention, in the vast number of non-"mystics" to whom praying for benefits means so much? And that this attention brings about spiritual receptivity, urgency in petition, confidenceall of them conditions for getting results which were laid down by Our Lord.
,4 propos criticism by mythologists, may I give a most interesting parallel to all this, found in some of their own writings? (It may make you laugh-but let it be laughter as kind and appreciative al the angels', for the psychical researchers to whom I refer are doing work that is very much "on the side of the angels", and directly opposed to Materialism-which they hate as much as we do). Here is the parallel. The well-known journalist, author and psychic researcher, Mr. John ngdon Davies, stated in the -Journal" of the S.P.A., that when he wants to get into the required state Of attention and receptivity for a telepathy test, he places on the table before him, a photograph of the leader of Psychic Research in the U.S.A., Mrs. Eileen Garratt.
One last thing. As union de prieres was another thing Our Lord specially advocated for getting results, readers might like to know that a Solemn Novena to Our Lady and St. Gabriel by the the Philangeli will terminate on March 25. St. Gabriel has given extraordinary proofs of his efficiency in the matter of conversions, in recent years. Is he, perhaps, the Archangel of Unity?
