Catholic marriage raises problems

PRINCE Michael of Kent, the Queen's cousin, is to marry a Catholic and renounce his right of succession to the Throne. His engagement to Baroness Marie-Christine von Reibnitz, is expected to be announced this week.

Her six year old marriqc to Mr Tom Troubridge was annulled in May nearly two years after her petition was first filed. She has asked the Vatican for a dispensation to marry in a Catholic church and because this is a royal marriage the request will go to Pope Paul. There is some dispute as to whether the children should be brought up as Anglicans or Catholics but Pope Paul may allow the children to be brought up as Anglicans because of the close links between the English monarchy and the Church of England.
