The Pope praised the Republic of Indonesia when its first Minister to the Holy Sec, Mr. Sukardjo Wirjopranto, presented his credentials last week.
"As a new and qualified member of the comity of nations," said His Holiness, " the United States of Indonesia deemed it important not to let pass the first year of independence without giving proof of its friendly attitude by establishing diplomatic relations."
Referring to the perilous position of the country, the Pope added that its 70 million citizens " deserve the fraternal help and encouragement of all in their struggles to consolidate freedom."
