1938: Centenary of Catholic New Zealand

Two years before the celebration of its national centenary, the Catholics of New Zealand will celebrate next February. the centenary of the first mass offered in that country.

That first mass was said on January 13, 1838 by the Apostolic Bishop, Mgr. Pornpallier. and the portable missionary altar used which has been faithfully preserved will be used again during the celebrations.

His Excellency, Mgr. Panico, Apostolic Delegate to Australia and New Zealand, will represent the Pope.
