ARCHBISHOP STEPINAC : OPERATION

A RCHBLSHOP STEPINAC is "as 1-Wwel1 as can be expected" after undergoing an operation in a Yugoslav hospital, according to reports from Belgrade.

The Cardinal-designate underwent the operation for thrombosis of the left leg during the week before Christmas.

The reports state that be had been suffering from this complaint for some time.

Korea General confirmed

General James C. Fry. who was received into the Church on December 12, was confirmed by Cardinal Spellman in Korea just before his third Mass on Christmas morning. It was the General's 55th birthday.

More than 800 men of the U.S, 2nd Division crowded in and around a large tent watched the ceremony. The Eighth Army Commander, General Van Fleet, was among them.

General Fry's wife and daughter are Catholics.

Travelling by plane. helicopter and jeep over snow-powdered ridges cut by trenches and foxholes, and through valleys echoing with the roar of artillery, Cardinal • Spellman met more than 14,000 troops during his eightday stay in the war area.
