City of War: The Story of John Cabe

15 CERT, 134 MINS

Daniel Brühl (of Goodbye Lenin) and Steve Buscemi star in this biopic of the German businessman whose heroism has been compared to that of Oskar Schindler. Rabe used his Nazi party membership to save over 200,000 Chinese from the Nanking massacre after 1937. Along the way he builds up a touching relationship with an American Protestant missionary doctor, Robert Wilson, despite the latter’s hatred of Nazis. The film, which has been criticised for taking certain liberties with history, has already received seven German film award nominations.
