Murder no mercy

The Criminal Law Revision Committee proposes to make 'mercy killing a separate offence with minimal penalties. The committee includes the Director of Public Prosecutions and at least one member of the Abortion Law Reform Association, Now the British Humanist Association and the Voluntary Euthanasia Society have found in a poll that a high percentage (of the exiguous number questioned) appear to favour voluntary euthanasia. It can be no coincidence that this "discovery" follows so closely open the Criminal Law Revision Committee's proposal. The committee requested comment from the public, which should be addressed to the Secretary of the Committee, Home Office, Whitehall, London, SW1. I ask readers to write repudiating the proposal to minimise the legal gravity of mercy killing and expressing concern at the involvement of the DPP in this recommendation.
