WHY is the debate on the energy crisis carried on in a different arena and without reference to the Church's attitude to birth control? Pope Paul VI's Humanae Vitae will surely be seen as historically prophetic when nuclear power and artificial contraception are seen as the same "temptation from the Devil".
A commitment to -solar power in its widest sense and these kind of energy choices for the human race
must be the same commitment as to natural family planning.
The tradition of the Church and its basic intuitions on personal morality will only find completion and human acceptance alongside an equally political commitment to guide the planet towards energy systems based on natural ecological rhythm. Western capitalism and Eastern socialism are both industrialisedmilitarised systems demanding nuclear power to continue their equally abhorrent artificial systems and subtle control of the exploited peoples of the Third World.
The Church must be as nuclear pacifist as it is absolutist on abortion. ecologically committed to solar energy as it is to natural rhythm within marriage. and so dedicated to justice within the world as it is with 'mystical union with the beloved Lord Jesus.
