False Rumours

From Our French Correspondent.

It need only be said in addition to the official news given last week that all the rumours about an enquiry led by a foreign prelate, about a conflict between the French government and the Holy See, about an intervention on the part of the French ambassador—that all this is fiction invented by journalists short of copy. M. Charles Roux, the ambassador, is too experienced a diplomat to meddle in a matter of purely ecclesiastical discipline that only concerns the Church.

The canonical enquiry was initiated by a French archbishop—Mgr. de Guebriant has been named—and taken up on his death by Mgr. Chollet, Archbishop of Cambrai.
