'Have mercy'

The centuries slip away and we repeat the ancient prayers, "Holy God, Valiant God, Immortal God, have mercy on us" — the echo of Agios 0 Theos, Agius lschyros, Aglos Athanatos, which the Church prayed at Antioch and Corinth and Constantinople at the dawn of Christianity.

On the Cross Christ proves His love for U. Ultimately we shall be judged by the degree of love we have reached and put into practice. Love is the only currency that never loses Its value.

"Love covers a multitude of sins," says Peter, doubtless remembering a striking moment when he heard his Master say, "her sins which are man), are forgiven . . . for she loved much." The New Testament constantly asserts that Love is stronger than death. Love is the only thing we can lake with us into our heavenly home.

If there were officials on duty at the entrance to our new life they would insist that the only valid passport would he love. During Holy Week, we pray that we may increase in genuine love for God. And Christ on the Cross shows us that our prayers will be answered.
