Our debt to the Vatican

I REFER to reports re the Vatican debt of £25 million and, in particular, to the fact that a Vatican Council is to compose a suitably-worded request to send to the world's 2,422 dioceses appealing to Catholics to demonstrate a yet more generous solidarity towards the Pope which will allow him to cope adequately with his mission at the service of the Church and humanity.

Why wait? Let us begin now — we can all play a part in helping to raise money. We must not sit back and wait for others. One way of helping is by joining the Friends of the Holy Father.

John Paul Il gives all he has to help all regardless of race, colour or creed. Whilst we must continue to pray for our Holy Father's intentions, we now have the opportunity to repay him in a tangible way.
