A Chinese Crucifixion!

Recently a C.H. reporter was presented with a copy of this Lenten study in Chinese style by the artist, Fr. Fang His-sheng, or Fr. Edmund van Genechten, a Belgian Missionary Father of the Scheut Society. Before going to North China in 1930, Fr. Genechten was an artist in the European style ; since then he has confined himself to the Chinese method.

Fr. Fang His-sheng has decorated several churches in Inner Mongolia; has had his work shown at the Vatican Exhibition and has taught in the Catholic University at Pekin. Released from a Japanese concentration camp last year by American paratroopers, he passed through London on his way to Brussels, where he now is for a year of retreat before returning to the China Mission.
