How can I save

gas ?

Question: Is there any way I can save gas?

Answer: By using as little as possible as efficiently as possible. Sta -t off by never using bed-room fires unless you have illness in the house.

q. That sounds rather a chilly prospect but if it means a great saving it must be done. What else?

A . Well, during cold weather gas demands are extremely heavy from people who depend on gas fires only. So when you have a coal fire going in the house, do not use gas as well.

Q. And if I only have gas fires in the house, what then?

A. Then turn them on only when they are needed and turn them down as soon as the room is warm. A warm room can be kept warm with the fire half on.

Q. You haven't mentioned cooking?

A. There are several ways of saving gas when you are cooking. Use the small rings. Never let gas flare round the sides of saucepans and kettles. Frying takes less gas than grilling. If you must grill, use the heat above for a kettle or saucepan. Cook vegetables in a minimum quantity of water. Keep lids on saucepans to prevent loss of heat. Always cook more than one dish in the oven—plan cooking to-day to save gas tomorrow.
