NURSES AND MASS SIR-There is a g rave shorta g e of nurses,

and under present conditions of long hours and small monetary remuneration, the most likely applicants for the nursing service will be those who feel they have a vocation for this work. Hospital work must continue for the whole twenty-four hours of every day. and therefore arrangements

are made to ensure off-duty periods and facilities for meals, etc. Unfortunately in many hospitals these facilities do not provide for the spiritual needs of nurses and in consequence It is often very difficult, and sometimes impossible, for nurses to attend Mass on Sundays. If Catholics are to be attracted to this noble profession, it is imperative that proper facilities be provided to enable nurses to attend Mass every Sunday. If you will kindly give this letter space in your columns it might cause the controlling officials of our hospitals to ensure that adequate opportunities are provided for Catholics to practise their religion.
