ARCHBISHOP, OF OTTAWA COLLAPSES While consecrating his successor

In the course of the past months three new bishops have been consecrated in Canada. On January 29 the Apostolic Legate, Mgr. Antoniutti, consecrated Mgr. Douville; on February 2 Mgr. Forbes, the venerable Archbishop of Ottawa, consecrated his coadjutor, Mgr. Vachon; and on February 3 Cardinal Villeneuve consecrated Mgr. Belleau, first Vicar Apostolic of James' Bay.

The consecration of Mgr. Vachon was especially moving. After a long illness Mgr. Forbes had left hospital because he wished personally to consecrate his coadjutor.

It had been an almost superhuman effort for him to remain upright throughout the solemn ceremony. When. the time to enthrone his successor came he lost consciousness and had to be carried into the sacristry.

Before the beginning of the ceremony Mgr. Forbes had said to his diocesans: " When I have placed the mitre on my successor's head, I shall be able to say to God, with Simeon : "Lord, now let Thy servant depart in peace."
