THE church of St Francis Xavier in Salisbury Street, Liverpool, is the venue for an original performance of Mozart's Requiem on Wednesday, July 11 at 7.30 pm. The Ouseley Singers and the New English classical Orchestra will perform the work in aid of Barnardos (Details from 051 645 8124).

THE Inner London LIFE Pregnancy Care Service has organised a sponsored walk for Sunday, July 8, in aid of the anti-abortion organisation's central London office costs. The walk will start after a pro-life mass at the Church of the English Martyrs near Tower Bridge and criss-cross the Thames bridges. Details from Veronica Hodges on 071 436 1524.

CARDINAL Basil Flume of Westminster will be speaking on the subject of homelessness at Acton Town Hall on July 5 at 7 pm. The meeting is organised

by the Acton Homeless Concern, which was founded by Fr Padraig Lyons. All are welcome to attend.

From the bishops' diaries HISTORY and anniversaries play a prominent role in the bishops' schedules for the coming week. Bishop Christopher Budd of Plymouth will make history on Thursday when he confirms 36 people from St Catherine's parish in Wimborne, Dorset, at nearby Wimborne Minster. It will be the first Catholic service there for 500 years.

Archbishop Michael Bowen of Southwark attends a pagaent to celebrate the 150th anniversary of St Elizabeth's School, Richmond, Surrey, on Wednesday morning, and on Friday evening goes to the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Catholic Institute for International Relations in central London. Archbishop Derek Worlock of Liverpool will be there too. The next day (Saturday July 7) he ordains Ian McFarland to the priesthood at St Sylvester's in Liverpool.

Bishop Patrick Kelly of Salford ordains Martin Dowd at St Vincent's, Norden, Rochdale this Sunday afternoon, and David Yatts at St James, Rawtenstall, the following Saturday.

Bishop Leo McCartie of Northampton has an ordination on Saturday at All Saint's, Bletchley. Archbishop Maurice Couve de Murville of Birmingham has ordinations to the permanent diaconate at St Chad's cathedral this Sunday afternoon, while next Saturday he ordains Louis Le Van Hong at St Francis', Handsworth. Bishop Philip Pargeter, auxiliary in Birmingham, ordains Anthony Dykes at St Mary's Leek, on the same day.

Bishop John Crowley, Bishop in Central London, will direct a retreat at St Beuno's in North Wales next week, while Bishop Mervyn Alexander of Clifton leads a diocesan pilgrimage to Glastonbury on Sunday.
