Ambassador of faith

From Mr Stuart Kitching SIR – I believe that the Catholic community of this country owes a debt of gratitude to BBC television for its coverage of the death and funeral of Pope John Paul II, and the election and inauguration Mass of Pope Benedict XVI.

The coverage was full, and the commentaries were generally balanced and relevant. They were helpful not only to Catholics, but I am sure also to those who do not follow or even understand our faith.

I would like to pay particular tribute to Huw Edwards and his team who talked us through the major events. But especial thanks must go to Archbishop Vincent Nichols for his outstanding commentary. It was always apposite, clear and sensitive, and I am sure that I am not the only person to have found it also moving and uplifting.

Archbishop Nichols has once again proved to be a wonderful exponent and ambassador of our faith.

Yours faithfully, STUART KITCHING East Grinstead, W Sussex
