High Mass celebrates the motu proprio

TO MARK the day on which Pope Benedict XVI’s motu proprio came into effect, the Latin Mass Society (LMS) organised a High Mass with the Te Deum at the Brompton Oratory, central London, on September 14.
The church was packed, the sanctuary was a blaze of vestments and candles and clouds of incense drifted into the church vaults. The congregation joined the choir in singing the praises of God.
In his homily Fr Ignatius Harrison, the provost of the Oratory, called for the Traditional Rite to retake its proper place in the Church’s liturgical tradition.
Later at a reception Julian Chadwick, LMS chairman, pledged that the society would do all in its power to ensure a smooth and trouble-free reintroduction of the extraordinary form of the Roman Rite into all the English and Welsh dioceses.
