DJ trades in decks for the priesthood

BY MIGUEL CULLEN
A NOTTINGHAM DJ has ditched the crossfader for the crucifix by deciding to become a Catholic priest.
Martin Stack, aka DJ Skillmaster, has said farewell to the Nottingham club circuit in favour of a four-year stint to train as a priest in Rome.
Mr Stack was also a successful breakdancer, with television appearances and a Sony single.
“You’ve got the world at your feet, girlfriends left, right and centre,” he said. “But you think to yourself, can I do what St Francis did?”
Mr Stack was inspired by the film, Brother Sun, Sister Moon, which tells the story of St Francis of Assisi. The film draws parallels with the teachings of St Francis and the ideology that underpinned the hippie movement of the 1960s.
“I would go to New York to drop off a single with Sony and stopped off at a friary in the Bronx,” Mr Stack said about his journey into the Church.
For the future, he hasn’t discounted the possibility of marrying a couple then leading in with the dancefloor hits at the reception.
Mr Stack has been teaching theology at Christ the King Catholic Secondary in Nottingham. He departed last week to Rome for his fouryear training for the priesthood.
